New York's Street Safety Problem
Like the rest of the country, in New York City cars dominate the streets, and pedestrians and cyclists suffer because of it. Across the city people are seriously injured or killed by reckless drivers every couple of hours, and for teens and seniors, the problem is much worse. This is an epidemic of epic proportions--it affects every single New Yorker--yet it is completely solvable. There are many known ways to curb traffic violence, so why are the adults in power doing so little? The Vision Zero Youth Council was created to combat this inaction, to force our leaders to focus on the problem and take action to protect us.
